JÖKULSÁRLÓN, ICELAND
March, 2005

Decaying ice and icebergs on the surface of the Jökulsárlón in southeast Iceland. The ice drains off the great icecap called the Vatnajokull. Jökulsárlón, a name that means “glacial lagoon,” did not exist until the 1930’s. The glaciers feeding it have steadily pulled back since that time, leaving a lagoon 2.5 by 3 miles (4 by 5 km.) large. |
