At times the ocean water in this sequence appears gray, which is a result of sediment-laden fresh water seeping into the ocean from below the glacier. The location of the gray water changes partly because of tidal movement and partly because the subglacial stream outlet shifts across the base of the terminus as the subglacial rivers that squeeze through the narrow space between the bottom of the glacier and the bedrock underneath change course. At the end of the sequence you can see that as the season turns to winter, the water starts to freeze and form very tightly packed sea ice.
